Huawei G300 to get Ice Cream Sandwich soon

Inquirer are running a pretty small but important story related to the upgrade of the Huawei G300 Android to Ice Cream Sandwich. Although there is an interview, there is next to no detail to be confirmed other than it is in it’s second testing cycle and should be with consumers “sooner rather than later”. The piece also oddly tries to pick a fight with HTC over a lack of ICS for the Desire HD, as if specification is the predetermined factor for the upgrade to be delivered. It is not as clearly Read more [...]

Vodafone Huawei G300 may be unlocked as standard

We have had reports that the bargain Android of 2012, the Huawei G300, may be unlocked as standard. Currently, Vodafone in the UK has the exclusivity on the handset, and is selling it on Pay As You Go for a meagre £100 plus top up. Usdially, PAYG phones are locked down tight, requiring some nefarious handiwork or a payment to the network to release it. But we knoe of people who have the G300 who have taken it to be unlocked only to be told that it is not necessary. Case inpoint: a Tesco Mobile Read more [...]

Vodafone and O2 to take on Everything Everywhere

If Everything Everywhere's monopoly over the 4G spectrum allocation has competitors fuming, then it looks like two of them are teaming up to even the playing field. Vodafone and O2 have announced that they will be merging their infrastructure to form a combined "grid" of 18,500 mobile sites. How this will work in practice means a new 50/50 joint venture company (similar to Everything Everywhere) will be set up in the short term, with Telefonica UK (O2's parent company) Read more [...]

Huawei G300 – Rise King of the Cheapskates

This phone rocks like a hurricane. Serious. Go buy one. Wrong way to start a review? Well sorry, but let’s cut to the chase: *buy the damn phone*. Why? Well, if you insist… Android is built on touch screen technology, but the common flaw in budget end phones is that too many sacrifices are made in this area. Small phones like the HTC Wildfire S or Samsung Galaxy Ace may hit the right places with either the camera or processor, but rarely is the screen a stunner. If the screen dimensions are smaller, Read more [...]

Vodafone offers Samsung Galaxy S III registrations… and we still know nothing more

Vodafone have put up a page for interested parties to register interest in the new Samsung Galaxy S phone. The interwebs are literally going geek crazy at the prospect of the grand unveiling of “your next Galaxy” and the UK network are staking their claim early. Despite May 3 being days away, the story and anticipation are the top talking points of geek press across the world. If Samsung really wanted to emulate Apple, they seem to be going about it the right way. Samsung even resorted to putting Read more [...]

Carrier IQ: The phone tracking saga

A perfect storm has been brewing over this past couple of weeks over a technology called Carrier IQ. In essence, the software is used to track specific information that can then be used by a mobile phone network operator for diagnostics. The problem is that networks have not volunteered this information and the egregious right are up in arms. In the UK, there does not appear to be much of a trace of Carrier IQ. Three and Vodafone have denied that it exists on any devices sold by them while in Read more [...]
