Orange launch the NFC equipped ZTE KIS as the Dublin

Orange have announced that they will be introducing a new entry level android smartphone name Dublin. The phone is a rebranded ZTE Kis and looks on the surface to be a very capable entry level Android. This phone is only 11.5 millimetres thick and inherits the silver metallic design of the Skate. The 3.5 inch screen is powered by an 800 megahertz processor which seems to be about right. It should not lag with Android 2.3 but alas there is no word of an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich. It has a 3.2 Read more [...]

O2 being honest with it’s faster 3G rollout…unlike Three

O2 are rolling out super fast 3G coverage to “major cities” of the UK. Super-fast being the DC-HSPA standard giving up to 42 megabytes per second of mobile bandwidth, but a far cry from the impending LTE (Long Term Evolution) tech that is making Americans so damn fast at updating Twitter. Three announced earlier this year they were also rolling out DC-HSPA but in part used the American 4G definition which is widely regarded as erroneous marketing hyperbole. They state: But let’s be Read more [...]

Orange taking registrations on Intel powered Santa Clara

The first Intel powered Android phone in the UK looks set to be released by Orange in the very near future. The UK operator has unveiled a registration page for the Santa Clara phone, a device which may also get a new name by the time it is released. The smartphone “with Intel Inside®” sports a 1.6GHz Intel® processor, 8MP camera that takes up to 10 photos a second and 16GB user memory. Apparently it is a “stylish Orange exclusive”. What I want to know is why does Orange only pick pseudo-exotic Read more [...]

Orange TVCheck headed to Android on general release for lazy Tweeters

Orange will be releasing their TVCheck app on Android and iOS later this year. The app is designed to let users easily share what they are watching with friends on Facebook and Twitter. Although I would query how useful this is. According to 3G.co.uk, “the cleverest thing about the application is that in order to choose what you are watching you just point your smartphone’s camera at your TV”. It might be clever but it is also pointless. I fail to see how much faster it is when you would need Read more [...]

Intel powered Orange London coming soon

Orange have raised our eyebrows today with news of a new handset. It looks like a rebadged ZTE or Huawei model, but the specification is an important part of the story. The London, as it has been badged, could well be the first Intel powered Android phone. It could also be one of the first to come with Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box. The rumoured 1.2GHz processor will drive a 4.03 inch screen built from Corning Gorilla Glass with an 8 megapixel camera which will capture full HD video. Is Read more [...]

Orange Mobile's tablet selection.

Orange peel off Tahiti tablet

UK mobile network Orange has long offered own branded phones and now they are offering their own brand of tablet: the Tahiti. The tablet is based on Android Honeycomb and sports a 7 inch screen. Specification wise it is not a bad device with a dual core Qualcomm 8260 processor clocked at 1.2GHz. It comes with 8GB of storage plus microSD expansion and 512MB of RAM for Apps. Weighing in at a nice 390g and being only 11mm thick, it seems to be a more preferable package to the HTC Flyer which also recently Read more [...]

T-Mobile Vivacity re-brands the re-branded Orange San Francisco 2

T-Mo are back in the business of re-branding Far Eastern phones as their own á la Orange and have today launched the 'Vivacity' handset. But it is not just the act of re-branding that is similar to it's Everything Everywhere stablemate: the Vivacity appears to be an Orange San Francisco 2 with an iPhone-esque chassis. The specifications are identical down to the 5 megapixel camera, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and memory/SD card expansion. The Orange variant looks sexier, but they will Read more [...]
