As I prepared to go to bed last night, a saucy email arrived that tickled my app fancy. ‘Instagram is out on Android’ it proclaimed, and I got excited. I was not the only one with over 3 million downloads from Google Play in mere hours of the app going live. Photo sharing and manipulation phenomenon Instagram is about to open its doors to Android users. The service has a page at Instagr.am/android where you can be placed on a waiting list to get access once it has been released. Instagram has become a sensation for those who love to take pictures and make them look wierd afterwards. Part social network and part pocket-Photoshop, the app has over 50 million users on the iPhone. Today at LeWeb in Paris, Instagram Chief Executive Kevin Systrom said an Android version is in the works, and stating “we have two people working on Android now”.
