Sony softens its design with the Xperia GX smartphone

Sony today have launched two handsets aimed at the Japanese market, and whetted the apatite of everyone else. The Xperia SX and GX handsets are designed for the 4G LTE networks which are only at the trial stage in the UK, but what I think is most interesting is the design of the GX especially. The edges have been softened significantly in a way that make the phone itself much more appealing. Unfortunately the most recent Sony phones have been very angular and monolithic, certainly a far cry Read more [...]

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 series delayed due to TouchWiz and ICS

Samsung are retrenching back to the good old days of announcing much and delivering little. The Galaxy Tab 2 has now suffered further delays in the UK die to Samsung wanting to ensure a fully TouchWiz equipped Ice Cream Sandwich implementation comes out of the box. To highlight how much they think of the new 7 inch fondleslab, Samsung are preparing to square up to Amazon and Nook in the USA. They must have forced an intern to spend all afternoon on this table: It basically says for $50, Read more [...]

Huawei Ascend G300 Android Phone

Huawei G300 – Rise King of the Cheapskates

This phone rocks like a hurricane. Serious. Go buy one. Wrong way to start a review? Well sorry, but let’s cut to the chase: *buy the damn phone*. Why? Well, if you insist… Android is built on touch screen technology, but the common flaw in budget end phones is that too many sacrifices are made in this area. Small phones like the HTC Wildfire S or Samsung Galaxy Ace may hit the right places with either the camera or processor, but rarely is the screen a stunner. If the screen dimensions are smaller, Read more [...]

Asus Transformer Pad 300 Priced In US

Asus’ “budget” model Transformer Pad 300 has been spotted on-line with an attractive price of €499 which roughly translates to £412. Baring in mind this is for a 32GB model with a dock, that is not too bad a price, but certainly not something you could call a “value” option. The Verge did soem sniffing around and then found an American retailer who is expecting stock within a week selling the tablet for $379 (£238) which is clearly better. If Asus are staying true to previous marketing strategy, Read more [...]

Sony Tablets to get Ice Cream Sandwich soon

Sony’s Tablet S and Tablet P fondleslabs are to get an upgrade to Android 4.0.3, also known as Ice Cream Sandwich. The tied top tablet of 2011 (Tablet S) should get even better, and considering the device has recently has a price drop in the UK, it is looking more and more attractive. No word on when this will happen, but good that it will. Via http://www.sony.jp/CorporateCruise/Press/201203/12-0322/ (in Japanese!)

Samsung Delay’s Galaxy Note ICS Upgrade

The Verge is carrying a story which reveals a delay in Samsung’s plans to upgrade the Galaxy Note to Ice Cream Sandwich. Initially aiming for the end of Q1 2012 (which is right now), it has been pushed back to the next 3 months. In reading the talk back in The Verge’s article, it seems that this is upsetting a great many people. I myself am disappointed, but then again I am the sort of user that places a significant emphasis on running the latest software – the average person does not give a hoot. That Read more [...]

Sony readying ICS Tablet S successor to pack a punch

To my mind, the Sony Tablet S was the best tablet in 2011. It had a unique design, and a keen eye for usability. Eschewing the 10.1 inch tablet brigade, it went for something a little smaller, and a little more usable. It was wedge shaped to neatly fit into your had if you used it for reading regardless of being left or right handed. It was also nicely constructed, and fast. The only problem was that no one bought. I didn’t even buy one..and I loved it! Thanks HP. I used my annual technology ducats Read more [...]
