Android Ice Cream Sandwich use on the up

We don’t normally refer to the Android version stats, largely because it is a useless marker to anyone who is not interested in spreading Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt (a.k.a. FUD). But it is at least good to see that the latest versions of Android are gaining a decent foothold despite the majority of new phones still launching with Gingerbread. There are still a large number of Froyo devices around (around 15.5%) but that has now been overtaken by Ice Cream Sandwich. Jelly Bean, the latests Read more [...]

Huawei Ascend G300 Android Phone

Huawei G300 – Rise King of the Cheapskates

This phone rocks like a hurricane. Serious. Go buy one. Wrong way to start a review? Well sorry, but let’s cut to the chase: *buy the damn phone*. Why? Well, if you insist… Android is built on touch screen technology, but the common flaw in budget end phones is that too many sacrifices are made in this area. Small phones like the HTC Wildfire S or Samsung Galaxy Ace may hit the right places with either the camera or processor, but rarely is the screen a stunner. If the screen dimensions are smaller, Read more [...]

Samsung sits up and finds a Galaxy Pocket

It is safe to assume that Samsung’s vaunted attempt at corporate branding has failed miserably. With the announcement of the Galaxy Pocket, there are no ‘Y’s, ‘S’s, ‘W’s or ‘R’s in sight. Essentially, it is a smaller version of the Galaxy Y sporting a near identical 800MHz processor and 2 megapixel camera. The difference lies in the slightly smaller 2.8 inch screen which makes the 320×280 resolution give text a sharper appearance. The phone with begin and end with the elderly Gingerbread iteration Read more [...]

Motorola MOTOLUXE now available

Motorola’s middle range Android phone, the MOTOLUXE is now available in the UK. Retailer Clove has announced that stock came in a day early, and it is now shipping. The value oriented handset is an interesting proposition with a 4 inch screen and Gingerbread 2.3.7. It will be interesting to see if the 800MHz processor has the grunt to be able to cope. Like all nm handsets, the spectre of Ice Cream Sandwich hangs over them and as of yet, there is no news on whether the Luxe will remain on Gingerbread Read more [...]

Samsung confuses with the Galaxy S Advance

Samsung are once again confusing the hell out of consumers by announcing the I9070 Galaxy S Advance. In what looks like a far more realistic upgrade to the original Galaxy S, the new model supercedes the pointlessness of the S Plus which has failed to make an impact. On anyone. The Advance includes a 4.0 inch Super AMOLED touchscreen with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and made of scratchproof Gorilla Glass. Two variants with either 8GB or 16GB will be available and can be supplemented by Read more [...]

Samsung Galaxy M to repay the Android Gods for the Galaxy Ace Plus

The concept of the Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus is a stupid one. So as a way of saying sorry, Samsung have today announced the “magical” Galaxy M Style. In what appears to be 2010′s Galaxy S in a new suit of clothes, it sports a fetching 4 inch super AMOLED screen with Android 2.3 Gingerbread goodness. The 1 GHz single core processor and 3 megapixel camera may not be top drawer, but 4GB memory internal memory is good. Stick in a juicy microSD and rock the night away with a 1650 mAh battery. Nice Read more [...]

T-Mobile Vivacity re-brands the re-branded Orange San Francisco 2

T-Mo are back in the business of re-branding Far Eastern phones as their own á la Orange and have today launched the 'Vivacity' handset. But it is not just the act of re-branding that is similar to it's Everything Everywhere stablemate: the Vivacity appears to be an Orange San Francisco 2 with an iPhone-esque chassis. The specifications are identical down to the 5 megapixel camera, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and memory/SD card expansion. The Orange variant looks sexier, but they will Read more [...]
