Galaxy S 3 will have a 1.4GHz quad core Exynos processor

Samsung have revealed that their ‘next Galaxy’ phone (aka the Galaxy S 3) will feature a 1.4GHz quad core processor at its heart. The ‘Exynos 4 Quad’ is based on an ARM Cortex A9 and is 20% more power efficient than previous generations. Samsung are touting the gaming aspects as well as full HD capture and playback capabilities, stating that the chip is scalable to whatever demands are placed upon it. That’s good. Nice to see a chip that works…

Exynos 4 Quad offers incredible CPU and 3D performance while consuming much less power. It’s obvious the Exynos 4 Quad is the perfect choice for your next-generation, cutting-edge Smartphone and Tablet PC products.

Interestingly, the Exynos 4 Quad will be compatible with the 2 core Exynos Dual to provide manufacturers with the ability to spec accordingly without a complete hardware redesign. This should in turn provide reduced manufacturing costs in the long term as well as open the quad core chip up to phones already in development with the dual core sibling.

Samsung have also opened a page dedicated to the Exynos 5 Dual. This is “the world’s first A-15 Dual Core mobile CPU” coming in at a whopping 2GHz for the most powerful version. There is also a 1.7GHz chip in the offing. It should probably be expected that this time next year we will see an Exynos 5 Quad being inserted in to the Galaxy S 4 then…
