Microsoft debut on{X} on Android

Microsoft's on{X} on Android: A recipe

Those funny Microsofties. Always playing around with Android. Releasing interesting and potentially amazing functionality on other platforms that are not Windows Phone. Smell the sarcasm before I swallow my pride. Bloody Microsoft. You just go and do something….something to make me like you again. Something like on{X}.

on{X} lets you control and extend the capabilities of your Android phone using a JavaScript API to remotely program it.

Sounds interesting. And avoiding three sarcasm of my preamble, Android’s less stringent restrictions have allowed them to get an entire community of geeks involved in perfecting a really useful idea: Microsoft likes to call them recipes. Essentially they are automated tasks based on logic.

Recipes is cute though and you could well see geeks people exchanging recipes with each other. But in practise it means that you could get your Android to automatically text your partner when ever they have a missed call. Or send an automatic text message to the caller that you are driving by making use of the driving mode in Android. For those health professionals using Android in the community, it could be a useful tool for sending your location automatically to your base of work – useful for lone worker applicaitons and mitigating risk.
