Android Ice Cream Sandwich use on the up
We don’t normally refer to the Android version stats, largely because it is a useless marker to anyone who is not interested in spreading Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt (a.k.a. FUD). But it is at least good to see that the latest versions of Android are gaining a decent foothold despite the majority of new phones still launching with Gingerbread.
There are still a large number of Froyo devices around (around 15.5%) but that has now been overtaken by Ice Cream Sandwich. Jelly Bean, the latests version, of course is still on a minority of devices at least than 1% but that is to be expected with only the Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus to sport it. The big numbers are held by Gingerbread, accounting for over 60% of devices.
The recent launch of Google TV in the UK should also see the numbers of Honeycomb devices go up. I would imaging this to hit a staggering 2.4% in the next round of results. That’s right. Barely worth reporting at all…
