Samsung Galaxy S4 stock woes could play to HTC’s favour

Reviews of Samsung’s latest iPhone slayer are pouring in from across the Atlantic and for the most part the consensus waives between fantastic to very good. That is unless you are The Verge and the sight of plastic deeply offends. (The Guardian has an overview of the latest reviews here.) What is more concerning appears to be the supply issues.  Considering Samsung have bet the farm on a US invasion, stock levels are dwindling very low within days of launch. The UK is merely hours away from Read more [...]

Facebook to reveal custom version of HTC made Android?

The rumour mill is winding up again regarding a dedicated Facebook phone. The New York Times (via the Verge) stages that an upcoming event may hint the release of a new dedicated handset with a “new home on Android”. Does this mean a new phone or a new app? Facebook have indicated that a dedicated branded handset made by HTC did not make sense but a partnership is still on the cards. The important question is whether Facebook are working on skinning Android to add a social network layer or forking Read more [...]

Samsung Galaxy S4

More for less with the Samsung Galaxy S4

Samsung have launched their new top tier Android phone, the Galaxy S4. On top of despatching with the Roman numeral naming convention, the S4 is more of an iterative refinement of its predecessor opposed to a brand new handset. From a distance, it looks largely the same and without closer inspection you would wonder what the fuss is about. The big changes are the 5 inch screen which is housed in a shell that is actually smaller than the Galaxy S III. It is a sliver thinner at 7.9mm but manages Read more [...]

Samsung’s Eye Scroll to give a killer hook to the S4?

How easy is it to use fingers? How easy is it to use your eye? Despite us getting used to touching the screens of our phones only comparatively recently, Samsung looks to take your looks to aid device navigation. No one is sure just how this will work out even if it useful but it is interesting. The Galaxy S III already recognises when you have taken your eyes off the screen in order to lock the device. If the Eye Scroll is implemented I can see it as a boon in device navigation. Most users will Read more [...]

Asus PadFone 2 gets official UK release

Asus’ hybrid phone and tablet combo the Padfone 2 will officially see the UK daylight on March 1. Despite being amongst the AndroidGenus objects of desire for many months, it has been somewhat elusive with only a limited European release. The Padfone 2 will go on sale for £599 in either black or white, but Asus has also announced a suped up version in the form of the Padfone Infinity. This answers the critics who pointed out  that the Padfone 2′s tablet resolution of 1280×800 was hardly cutting Read more [...]

HTC One Android Smartphone

HTC announce One

HTC’s new Android phone has been unveiled. Regardless your opinion on the name used, the One certainly has some interesting features. The top line specification is good: a Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor, 2Gb of RAM with either 32gb or 64gb of storage coupled to a 1080p 4.7 inch screen to give an astonishing 468ppi. At that density, you are never going to see a pixel but then agian I am hard pushed to see a pixel on my Nexus 4 with a markedly reduced 720p resolution  Will it make a massive Read more [...]

iPhone 5 ranked fifth in customer satisfaction behind Android

A US customer satisfaction survey shows that maybe the tide is turning for Apple and the iPhone. The survey run by On Device Research found that the iPhone 5 ironically came out fifth for user satisfaction behind four other Android devices. The sample field came from over 93,000 respondents. The most satisfying device was the Motorola Atrix HD, a 4G LTE smartphone launched in July last year. It scored 8.57, followed by the Motorola Droid Razr M with 8.5, the HTC Rezound 4G with 8.32 and Read more [...]
